The winners of the prestigious 2012 MEF Carrier Ethernet Awards for the APAC, North America and Global regions were announced recently, with the APAC awards being presented at the recent MEF APAC Summit in Shanghai and the North America and Global award winners being named at the Light Reading Ethernet Expo in New York
These annual Awards recognize excellence and leadership in the development, marketing and delivery of Carrier Ethernet Services, and are presented annually in North America, Asia-Pacific, EMEA and the Caribbean and Latin American regions.
The awards this year encompassed four specific categories – to encourage the widest range of submissions, regardless of size or footprint, with the judging panels comprised of senior analysts from Current Analysis, Frost & Sullivan, Heavy Reading, IDC, Infonetics, Informa, Ovum, and Vertical Systems.
This year’s Business Services category was enhanced to recognize both the service provider and end user customer, resulting in submissions across a wide number of vertical markets. The analyst judging panel voted Australia’s South West Alliance of Rural Health (SWARH) and Vertel in the Healthcare market, Aicent and Verizon in the Mobile Data Services segment along with Juniper Networks and Verizon in the Manufacturing industry, Rohnert Park & AT&T in the Municipal Government vertical, Monroe City Schools and CenturyLink in the Education segment along with Pulte Mortgage and TW Telecom in the Financial Services vertical as the winners of the inaugural “Best Carrier Ethernet Business Application Awards across the APAC and NA regions.
“Best Wholesale Ethernet Service” includes applications for mobile backhaul, data centre and provider interconnects for the provisioning of managed point-to-point Ethernet services to their clients as well as overall contribution to Ethernet ubiquity. The winner of this award in the APAC region for 2012 was Telekom Malaysia, who edged out fellow finalists AAPT and SingTel. In North America MegaPath, was named as the winner with Global Capacity and Level 3 being the other finalists.
“Best Marketing”, as in previous years, recognizes the value in spreading the word about the many benefits of Carrier Ethernet. The judges assessed the campaign’s goals and objectives, how it differentiated the services and the results gained. AAPT, Globe Telecom and Philippines Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) made the finals of the APAC region but it was PLDT that scored the highest to take this year’s award. In North America, AT&T, Optimum Lightpath and Verizon were the finalists with Optimum Lightpath scoring the highest to take the award.
The “Regional Service Provider of the Year” is awarded on the basis of the cumulative score from the above 3 categories plus additional qualifications relating to the company’s location and specific regional coverage. The APAC winner this year was PLDT with SingTel and Tata Communications as very close runners-up.
This year’s winner in North America was Verizon with Level 3 and Tata Communications being the runners-up.
The Global Service Provider Award finalists were Level 3, Tata Communications and Verizon, all of whom had submitted details of their global Business Applications, Wholesale Services and Marketing campaigns over the past 12 months to the analyst judging panel, along with additional information relating to service coverage, partnership/interconnects and access technologies. Verizon Communications was announced as Global Service Provider of the Year for 2012.
