The MEF Services Interconnect Program (MEF-SI) launched by the MEF will give hundreds of wholesale Carrier Ethernet Operators the opportunity to grow their businesses by helping them quickly offer standards-compliant Carrier Ethernet services for their customers.
This new program – designed for Carrier Ethernet Operators around the globe with revenues of less than US$50 million per year – allows Operators to participate in the MEF’s E-Access and future E-Transit service certification programs without being required to be a MEF member. MEF-SI participants also have access to MEF marketing platforms and training tools designed to enable them to increase their revenues in the rapidly growing Carrier Ethernet wholesale services market.
The MEF-SI Program complements the MEF Ethernet Interconnect Points (EIP) project, which is another important industry-shaping initiative addressing one of the primary challenges of offering Carrier Ethernet services: the need of Carriers to provide end-to-end services over network segments they do not own or control. The Carrier Ethernet services market relies on hundreds of Carrier Ethernet Operators around the world to provide wholesale Ethernet services to Service Providers that do not have their own network infrastructure in specific geographies where their Carrier Ethernet Subscribers have sites located.
By offering MEF-certified E-Access and future E-Transit services, Carrier Ethernet Operators enable their Carrier Ethernet Service Provider customers to identify the fastest and most effective route to create end-to-end end CE 2.0 services (E-Line, E-LAN or E-Tree) in the geography supported by the Carrier Ethernet Operator. CE 2.0 certification also differentiates Operators from those offering non-standards compliant Ethernet services.
The first two companies to join the MEF Services Interconnect program are ESB Telecoms in Ireland and F6 Networks in Canada.
Dermot Hopkins, Active Equipment Engineering Manager, ESB Telecoms: “ESB Telecoms delivers Carrier Ethernet services with scalable bandwidth on our national high-performance network.  We are excited to be the first wholesale Carrier Ethernet Operator in Ireland to join the MEF Services Interconnect Program, which will enable us to expand our business and demonstrate our commitment to the continuing development of our network and excellence in all areas in the delivery of services for our customers.“
Eric Morin, CTO, F6 Networks: “We are very pleased to be the first Canadian wholesale Carrier Ethernet Operator to participate in this new MEF program. It allows us to demonstrate to our major customers our commitment to offering standards-defined wholesale services and to streamline interconnection with us to deliver end-to-end Carrier Ethernet connectivity for locations across the New Brunswick and Nova Scotiaregion.“
Currently, there are over 100 Carrier Ethernet Service Providers and Operators that have MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals (MEF-CECPs) but are currently outside the MEF membership. The MEF-SI Program will enable the MEF to embrace and support many of these companies in accelerating their wholesale Carrier Ethernet business growth, help them respond to the increasingly varied range of customer demands, and drive the acceleration of the worldwide adoption of performance-assured Carrier Ethernet services.

Operators participating in the program have access to the following MEF-backed platforms and tools:
•    MEF certification of E-Access and future E-Transit services
•    Presence in the MEF Services Directory
•    Usage of the MEF Service Interconnect Program logo in marketing collaterals
•    Free attendance in MEF Services Interconnect Program educational seminars
•    Inclusion in the Services Interconnect Zone at the GEN15 global networking event (
