Deutsche Telekom is expanding its portfolio of security solutions: a new service ensures that company employees can enjoy secure mobile communications and avoid malware. Like a virtual washing machine, the cloud service keeps smartphones and tablets clean by filtering out malware from the Internet before it can reach them. This eliminates the need to install anti-virus programs and central firewall functions on each individual mobile device. The service, called Corporate Security Hub, supplements the clean pipe solution for stationary computers and is available worldwide.
"Just one in five German companies pays sufficient attention to the Internet security of its smartphones, tablet PCs and laptops. At the same time, the number, complexity and scope of cyberattacks are increasing rapidly: 2.47 million new malware programs were discovered on mobile devices in 2013. Companies that fail to protect their devices adequately are being negligent in ignoring the potential economic damage," says Thomas Kiessling, head of Products and Innovation at Deutsche Telekom. It is therefore high time for people to become aware of the need for mobile security solutions.
The new service lets each company decide individually which protective measures they want to implement: they can choose which source and destination addresses they want to allow or block in Internet traffic. They can also decide which ports they wish to accept and which known botnets to block. Additional protection is provided by encrypting communications through a secure connection (SSL VPN tunnel). If employees log on to the Internet through an insecure hot spot, for example, external intervention is blocked; the service also prevents session hijacking, in which criminals join a communication link unnoticed and skim the information.

Benefits of the cloud: flexibility, scalability and centralized management
Company devices can be registered and configured according to the company policies easily through a web portal. An overview of attacks can be generated at the touch of a button – for each individual device. The number of users is freely selectable and modifiable; the security standards are always state of the art and investments in hardware become largely unnecessary. This security solution from the cloud also relieves the load on network connections at company headquarters. To do so, all data traffic is routed through German data centers, where it is checked for and cleansed of hazards in real time.
In addition to this new mobile protection concept, Deutsche Telekom also launched clean pipe in March 2014, offering comprehensive stationary protection against risks from the Internet to the SME segment. This service filters harmful content, such as e-mail viruses and website Trojans, according to defined criteria. Customers pay a fixed monthly fee for each site connected to Deutsche Telekom's network through a CompanyConnect line.
