"Webciety" to receive new website to become Web(so)ciety's home base

Having been launched as a keynote theme at CeBIT 2009, the Webciety has established itself as the epitome of our integrated society. And now the Webciety is getting a new homepage: is the future address for anything to do with the Webciety Area as well as for the latest news and insights on Internet trends. The new website offers a comprehensive overview of the relevant exhibition sector at CeBIT 2010 (2 to 6 March), including the show stage schedule and the latest developments concerning the Internet and the Web community.
The website will be rounded off by numerous new services. One feature consists of an events calendar containing all the main dates for the online community. will also incorporate the official CeBIT web log, 01blog.
The core of the new website consists of the new "Who's Who on the Web" tool, also known as the "WebcietyWiki". Here, registered users can create a profile containing information on their companies, organizations or themselves. The goal is to create a kind of Wiki for all the key Internet players. Users can quickly and conveniently locate leads and network with each other. An additional feature consists of displaying up-to-date reports and commentary taken from Google News, blogs and forums and Twitter on the various profile pages. This type of digital directory is a first in Germany.
The "WebcietyWiki" - serving as a future "Who's Who"-style directory of the Web community - will be launched next month as a beta version and will be continually refined in the coming weeks and months.
The open-source software "Wordpress" will be used as the editorial system for the new homepage and the 01blog. The "WebcietyWiki" was created with the help of the open-source web application framework entitled "Ruby on Rails", which has proven an effective tool for building dynamic websites fed from a variety of data sources.
