Thomson, a worldwide leader of services to content creators, is reinforcing its market leading position in broadband gateways to the home with two new xDSL gateway products. The TG799n and the TG799n GE are designed to meet the needs of network operators as they migrate their networks from ADSL2+ to VDSL2 and fibre, combining home networking and DECT telephony with a high speed WAN port.
The new gateways are designed to allow network service providers to offer sophisticated, bandwidth-hungry services such as online gaming, multiple high definition (HD) video streams and multimedia content to the home, and high bandwidth, high reliability data traffic to small businesses. Each is ideal as a single solution for operators with mixed technology networks – ADSL2+, VDSL2 and fibre - allowing them to offer a common service to all subscribers, while taking advantage of the maximum speed available on the line and adapting as the broadband circuit is upgraded.
“The market for home and small business broadband connectivity is evolving quickly, and operators are moving to improve speeds and capacity to offer compelling new services,” said Pascal Portelli, Vice President Gateways and Connected Devices, Thomson. “Once again Thomson is leading the market: we were first with a VDSL2 service platform with integrated WiFi 802.11n access point. Now we are first with two new ultra-broadband service platforms with integrated DECT telephony.”
The TG799n home gateway automatically detects the format and speed of the WAN and adapts its configuration when it is upgraded, reducing the total cost of ownership. On the subscriber side there are four fast Ethernet ports and two USB master ports for the connection of devices such as a printer and a hard disk for sharing rich media around the home. The product has an embedded high speed WiFi 802.11n wireless access point to allow full mobility and flexibility throughout the home.
The Thomson TG799n GE is a business-oriented version of the TG799n, with the WAN port offering gigabit ethernet speed as well as the four gigabit Ethernet ports on the LAN side. This new variant is packaged in an attractive business design. Both gateways support all profiles of VDSL2 and are available in two versions: for VDSL over POTS and over ISDN.
Finally, as with the rest of the Thomson Advanced Gateway product line, the TG799n and the TG799n GE have been developed with an ecologically aware design philosophy to achieve the best possible energy efficiency to minimize environmental impact. Intelligent software in the gateway ensures that power is saved wherever possible, for instance by enabling WiFi connection only when a WiFi client has been detected.
