Ethernet Alliance Certification Stamp awarded for successful completion of test criteria
The Ethernet Alliance® is launching a Certification Program to assist end users and designers of IEEE 802® Ethernet equipment with purchasing decisions. The program is designed to standardize test suites related to IEEE 802 Ethernet standards so as to clearly identify to which testing criteria a particular Ethernet solution has successfully been certified. The certification program is separate from other internal or external interoperability activities conducted within the Ethernet Alliance. Companies who successfully pass the identified test criteria will be awarded an Ethernet Alliance Certification stamp with an assigned nomenclature to identify which test suite was completed.
“Since the Ethernet Alliance was established three years ago, we have consistently heard requests from inside and outside the organization to establish a certification program that would assist buyers and users of Ethernet equipment,” said Brad Booth, Chair of the Ethernet Alliance. “As IEEE 802 Ethernet technologies have expanded and evolved in both scope and complexity, it is imperative that in addition to our current incubation and interoperability activities, the Ethernet Alliance offer ways to develop and simplify testing criteria. The goal of the certification program is to help streamline the customers’ procurement processes.”
The Ethernet Alliance has many subcommittees within its organization that focus on either supporting a particular standard or a market segment. The Certification Program testing criteria will be developed within these subcommittees and be based upon Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) contained within the relevant and respective IEEE 802 Ethernet standards documents. Different tests will be conducted as scoped by the individual subcommittees depending upon the technology focus, market requirements and IEEE 802 Ethernet standards status. Tests will be conducted at a third party, vendor neutral location, and the list of certified products will be published on the Ethernet Alliance public Web site.
