Omnitron participating in first ever carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Demonstration

Omnitron Systems Technology, a provider of fiber optic Network Interface Devices (NIDs) for demarcation of First Mile Carrier Ethernet services, announced participation in the industry's first ever live Carrier Ethernet services Global Interconnect Demonstration
The demonstration, being held at Light Reading Ethernet Expo: Europe 2009 Conference and Expo in London on May 13 and 14, is designed and organized by Iometrix, which is the authorized test lab of the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). The MEF, the industry body that defines Carrier Ethernet specifications and services, supports this major industry event.
The Global Interconnect Demonstration draws for the first time on all three of the major industry players -- service providers, equipment vendors, and enterprise application developers -- to demonstrate anywhere-to-anywhere Ethernet services, how they are delivered, and what enterprises can expect to get from them. To achieve this, the Global Interconnect integrates multiple demonstrations built around live, interconnected services delivered by major service providers to show that Carrier Ethernet services are spanning the globe to meet corporate customer expectations.
Omnitron is participating with other core and access equipment vendors, including Alcatel-Lucent, Anda Networks, Matisse Networks and Cisco to provide a close-up view of the next-generation implementations of protocols and services.
In the demo, Omnitron’s iConverter® GM3 Network Interface Devices (NID) will be connected to a Pan-European Metro Ethernet ring linking London and Frankfurt. Two iConverter GM3 NIDs will represent customer locations, and provide Ethernet demarcation between the Metro Ethernet Network and the User Network Interfaces (UNI). The GM3 NIDs will demonstrate Service OAM Connectivity Fault Management (802.1ag) via a Command Line Interface and via Omnitron’s NetOutlook® network management software. Fault detection and isolation will be demonstrated with Continuity Check Messages, Loopback, and Linktrace.
Ethernet Service Multiplexing will also be demonstrated via Ethernet Private Line (EPL), Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), and Ethernet LAN (ELAN) services.
The iConverter GM3 is MEF 9 and MEF 14 certified complaint, and can be used as a Transport NID, Service NID or Hybrid NID. Two-port and three-port models are available. The two-port models feature one customer uplink port (10/100/1000 Copper or 100/1000 Fiber) and one service provider downlink port (10/100/1000 Copper or 100/1000 Fiber). The three-port models feature two uplinks and one downlink, or one uplink and two downlinks.
